Seldom Records was created because three people who love music got fed up with being force-fed bland, pre-packaged pop groups by the record industry, and decided to do something about it. This was a fair few years ago and we have stuck to our somewhat apt name.
How often do you hear a new track, and think, "Wow... that's amazing"? In our opinion, not enough. There is a lot of good stuff out there, but the major record labels and radio stations are pummelling the life out of british music by flooding the market with single after single and album after album of the formulaic junk they think will bring them the highest profits. The loss of the physical format continues unabated. It is all about the digital download (most likely in a free or cheap as chips price bracket) and then raking in the money from live gigs. Radiohead's In Rainbows brought the whole discussion of physical vs digital, legal vs illegal, free vs paid for, to the larger consumers attention, widening a debate that had rumbled for many a year before with the rise and fall of Napster, RIAA lawsuits, and the explosive success of Apple's iTunes Store. Small independents like Stolen Wine have disappeared as have many physical distributors. The likes of Norman Records still proudly wave the independent and physical format.
Please send us your music. We will carry on releasing lovely gems of music. Ideally, we will keep it both physical and digital but we will see how we go. Already on our delightful new Audio page you can find streams and free digital downloads. And maybe some kind souls will feel inclined to buy the physical copy of these and future releases, where available (thank you to those who have done so!).
It is, as ever, "All About The Music". We thank you for your continued support.
